A light, bright and airy bathroom with clean lines, plenty of storage and special details is on many homeowners’ wish lists. You’ll find plenty of great examples, as well as ideas for warm wood vanities and bold tile choices, in this countdown of the 10 most popular bathrooms.

10. Victorian Romance

Sara Swabb of Storie Collective outfitted the primary bathroom in her 1900 Washington, D.C., row home with a cast-iron claw-foot tub and this custom two-bottom-drawer vanity topped with marble. The vanity, which Swabb created in collaboration with Unique Kitchens & Baths, is painted in Farrow & Ball’s Skimming Stone, a soft neutral that takes its name from a 19th-century plaster color. The antique light fixtures and rug contribute to the room’s romantic ambiance.

9. Long and Lean

Skinny Shaker-style doors give a light wood vanity a modern feel in this Michigan bathroom by PRM Custom Builders. Tapered feet balance that modernity with a touch of tradition. Subtle details that elevate the look include light veining in the hexagonal floor tile and the white countertop, a mix of black and brass hardware and the mirrors’ lozenge-shaped silhouette.

8. Bathed in Light

This Long Beach, California, primary bathroom by Zac Archuleta of Well Done Building & Design and Lisa Rossman of LL Design pairs luxurious elements, including a chandelier and a deep soaking tub, with more function-forward features such as a low-curb shower. The color palette is neutral but the overall design is dynamic thanks to the geometric pattern of the marble mosaic floor tile, the swirling veins in the white marble shower wall and high-contrast black accents.

7. Open and Shut

In a Seattle bathroom by Jessica Nelson Design, a combination of open and closed storage adds visual interest and practicality to a light wood vanity. Wall-mounted faucets on the marble backsplash keep the countertop clear. And the herringbone-tiled floor and square wall tiles (which extend into the adjacent bath and shower area) repeat the marble’s varying gray tones while adding contemporary-looking texture and pattern.

6. Geo Gem

A geometric-patterned tile floor brings zing to this Lauren Collander Interiors-designed contemporary bathroom in the Chicago area. The vanity’s open shelves keep it from looking heavy despite its dark blue-gray paint finish. Rounded, brass-toned mirror frames and antiqued hardware add softness and warmth to the cool color palette and angled shapes.

5. Calming Countersplash

Devon Grace Interiors opted for a quartz “countersplash” — the buzzy term for a countertop and backsplash made of the same material — for this pale gray primary en suite in Chicago. The smoothness and subtlety of the marbled slab contrasts with the textured, variegated wall tile and lets the brass wall-mounted faucets and delicate glass shelves and sconces shine. Notice how the three drawers in the center of the gray vanity share a single Shaker-style frame.

4. Color In the Lines

Zellige-style green glass tiles fill this La Grange Park, Illinois, bathroom by Ellen Whitehead of DEW Design with bold color and emphasize the ceiling’s unique curve. Traditional black-and-white hexagonal floor tiles, a custom walnut vanity and a black-bottomed claw-foot cast-iron tub nod to the home’s turn-of-the-20th-century architecture. And a glass divider screen-printed with a black grid adds drama but is easier to clean than one with a metal frame.

3. Towering Achievement

Matching towers flank a trough sink with two wall-mounted faucets in this family bathroom, which is in a ranch house remodeled by Courtney Thomas Design in La Cañada, California. The Wedgwood blue cabinetry offers copious storage space, while the trough sink offers the functionality of double sinks without gobbling up excessive counter space.

2. In the Grid

A green-painted ceiling and walls, waterfall-inspired dimensional shower tiles, limestone-like porcelain floor tiles and a natural white oak vanity bring the outside into this Raleigh, North Carolina, bathroom by 2SL Design Build Collaborative. A black-gridded glass divider separating the wet room from the rest of the space coordinates with black drawer pulls and plumbing fixtures.

1. Narrow Focus

In a one-bedroom guest cottage on a 50-acre Texas ranch, Aurora Fain of Studio Fain made this bathroom (which measures roughly 6 by 20 feet) look light and airy by using a glossy, bright white palette accented by minimalist black hardware and a wood-look luxury vinyl floor. In the space-efficient wet room, a fixed-pane window lets in natural light and frames leafy oak trees, which further opens up the narrow space.
