With a population of almost 8,000, the town of West Dundee offers historic charm in a small town. The community is highly active, hosting several popular events throughout the year, and unique shops and restaurants line the beautiful streets of their walkable downtown district.
Located along the Fox River, West Dundee was once the D. Hill Nursery, which specialized in fruit trees and eventually, evergreens. Seasonal workers traveled into the West Dundee area from Chicago in the late 1800s to farm, and residential subdivisions began popping up in the 1950s. Today, West Dundee boasts beautiful, historical neighborhoods with restored buildings in the treasured Fox River Valley.

Local Lifestyle
Residents of West Dundee enjoy a quiet life. They take advantage of the abundance of parks and hiking trails in the area and spend a lot of time at local parks. Families and young professionals call West Dundee home, and most houses in the area are single-family structures with nice-sized yards and varied architecture. Some homes feature historic architecture or newer construction. There are also luxury condominiums and apartments available in the area.

The Hunt’s Block Building is a fixture in the West Dundee neighborhood and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was here that Andy Burns decided to open Emmett’s Brewing Company in 1998. Rooted in hard work, self-reliance, and integrity, Emmett’s is a community staple and continues to provide excellent service and quality meals to the residents of West Dundee. Specializing in craft beer, Emmett’s is an award-winning brewery. Specially crafted beer is brewed just 40 feet from the brewhouse that pours into your glass, and all varieties are made with traditional ingredients and contain no syrups or extracts. Emmett’s beer has been recognized locally, nationally, and internationally.
Burgers, beers, and more are waiting for you at West Dundee’s favorite spot – Bamboozels! A sports bar serving classic American food made from scratch in an energetic atmosphere, Bamboozels is the go-to spot for a great evening out. Try one of their 50 different burgers, and grab deep fried Oreos for dessert. If you’re in the mood for an entertaining evening, make sure to visit during karaoke nights!
With nine locations and a food truck,Billy Bricks Wood Fired Pizza has been a Chicago favorite for over 15 years. They are a family-owned and operated pizza shop offering the crispiest, chewiest, and hottest pizza in town. Local favorites include the Classic Margarita and Honey Love (with hot honey and hot soppressata) and their baked sandwiches.
Craving something sweet? Make sure to visit Around The Corner Candy, a decadent and award-winning candy shop located just around the corner from Bamboozels. Their inventory covers everything from dark chocolate truffles and caramel creams to novelty candies like paper candy buttons and Turkish Taffies.
Things to Do
There is no better weekend in East and West Dundee than Heritage Fest. Held annually over Homecoming Weekend in September, Heritage Fest hosts incredible, family-friendly events like pancake breakfasts, antique car shows, craft fairs, fireworks, and the highly-anticipated homecoming parade. If you’re looking to experience the perfect fall weekend full of fun and community pride, Heritage Fest is the place to be.
Beginning as a small group of holiday carolers, theDickens in Dundee festival has transformed into a community-wide event celebrating the joy of the winter season for over 34 years. The villages of East and West Dundee come together over one weekend to celebrate their communities and bring joy to their citizens. Events feature a tree lighting ceremony, scavenger hunts, a “Toys for Tots” drive, and a special reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
RocHaus is an “oasis for artists” and music lovers with roots dating back to 1910 – when the building was home to West Dundee’s Crystal Theater. Over the course of a century, and after extensive renovations and businesses changing hands, RocHaus was born to a new performance space. RocHaus brings mostly heavy metal and rock bands to the area, and the venue is conveniently located next to three excellent restaurants –Bleuroot,Bamboozels, and>Emmett’s Brewing Company.
Grafelman Park is a small community park located in the heart of West Dundee, a few blocks from the Fox River. Featuring picnic tables and a playground, Grafelman park is a great place to visit with children or to enjoy an afternoon stroll. They also host free concerts in the park during the summer.
